Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT)

Intelligence derived from imagery and geospatial data — the discipline of working with location.

GEOINT is the branch of intelligence concerned with location: geolocating a photograph from the buildings and shadows in it, chronolocating an event from the angle of the sun, and confirming a place against satellite and street-level imagery. It is the backbone of conflict verification and much investigative journalism.

In an OSINT context, GEOINT relies on free satellite imagery, mapping platforms, and a trained eye for the visual clues — signage, architecture, terrain — that pin an image to a spot on the map.
