Chronolocation

Determining when an image or video was captured from clues within it.

Chronolocation establishes the time an image was taken. Beyond any surviving metadata, analysts read observable clues — the length and direction of shadows compared against sun-position tools, the state of foliage, weather, and visible events — to pin down a date and time.

It complements geolocation: together, place and time turn a doubtful image into verifiable, publishable evidence.
