EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) data is the metadata cameras and phones embed in photographs — timestamps, camera make and model, settings, and frequently the exact GPS coordinates where the image was taken. A single un-scrubbed photo can therefore reveal a subject's precise location.
Extracting EXIF is a routine verification and geolocation step; conversely, stripping EXIF before posting is a basic privacy precaution.
