Misinformation

False information shared without the intent to deceive.

Misinformation is inaccurate content spread by people who believe it is true — rumours, mistaken claims, and miscaptioned images passed along in good faith. It differs from disinformation, which is deliberately deceptive, though the two often blur as content spreads.

For OSINT practitioners and content creators alike, rigorous verification is the defence: tracing claims to primary sources before amplifying them.
