Rate Limit

A cap on how many requests a service will accept in a given period.

A rate limit is a restriction a website or API places on how many requests it will accept from a user in a set time, to prevent abuse and manage load. Free OSINT tools and services frequently impose rate limits, which is why planning queries rather than firing them blindly is an important skill.

Hitting a limit mid-investigation can lock you out at the worst moment, so experienced analysts work deliberately and combine multiple sources.
