Domain Name System (DNS)

The system that maps human-readable domain names to internet addresses.

DNS translates domain names like example.com into the numerical IP addresses computers use. Its records — A, MX, TXT, and others — leak useful information about who runs a site and what other services they operate.

For OSINT, DNS enumeration reveals a domain's infrastructure, mail providers, and often connections to other properties controlled by the same owner.
